Voyageducation is “game-ifying” the Education Abroad safety training for Universities across the Big10. Currently, Universities are giving dull, 2-hour lectures that fail to effectively convey the material in a manner that is engaging to students. Due to this lack of connection between the material and the audience, students often learn the material the hard way once they arrive abroad. Students are making costly mistakes that could have been prevented by a safety orientation that is specifically focused on students’ enjoyment and long-term retention of the material. By utilizing microlearning and game-based learning principles, voyageducation aims to increase student engagement by presenting the material in a format that is more conducive to their learning style: videogames. The game will consist of ten levels that cover a variety of important pre-departure topics, such as how to navigate a foreign city, what scams to watch out for, and tips to have the best study abroad experience possible!
